Women’s Basketball - Important Facts
The WNBA has been professionally active for eleven years being its first official season in 1997. A WNBA game is made of four quarters of ten minutes duration each and the standard WNBA rules are basically those used in the NBA as well as the European Leagues Championship known as the FIBA.
Throughout the WNBA history there have been a total of 18 teams participating in the league of which these four are not active: Miami Sol (2000-2002), Portland Fire (2000-2002), Cleveland Rockers (1997-2003), and the Charlotte Sting (1997-2006).
As the Female basketball association continues to grow there is more TV coverage for the regular season games and as of the 2009 season two more channels will be included to broadcast the weekly games.
